The Quarter SO36 of Kreuzberg lies along River Spree and was once enclosed on two sides by the Berlin Wall. Nowadays it is one of the most interesting areas for going out in the evening, as many music clubs are situated there. The tour shows us many relics from the time of the divided city, but also items of youth and club culture. We start at subway station Schlesisches Tor and take a view over river Spree to East Side Gallery, the longest part of the wall left standing. The brigde Oberbaumbrücke once served as a checkpoint for West-Berliners. Along Schlesische Straße we explore interesting former industrial courtyards of the late 19th century. Landwehr canal was the border between former west and east. Close by stands still a wall tower, from where guards controlled the Berlin Wall Death Strip. The area of Arena is used for concerts and many other events and from there we enjoy a spectacular view over River Spree and the city panorama.
