Prenzlauer Berg update

City walk around Schönhauser Allee and the Berlin Wall

Along Kastanienallee and Schönhauser Allee a diverse scene established after the fall of the Berlin Wall with young fashion stores and possibilities for going out. We get in contact with aspects of East German history and explore street live of this district part. We start at southern exit of subway station Eberswalder Straße, where three streets are crossing. There stands a memorial for Skladanowsky brothers who showed first German films there in 1895. Prater is a garden restaurant since 1852 where young crowds are meeting in summer. Close by lies one of the old city baths in Oderberger Straße and we follow this street to the former Berlin Wall grounds. In the Wall Park of today many events are going on. Crossing the park of Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Stadion we come to former Groterjan Brewery. In Stargarder Straße we find Gethsemane Church, which was an important meeting point for the opposition in former East Germany.

Meeting point: Southern entrance/exit of subway station Eberswalder Straße; duration: two hours
